Orkambi Newsnight

I was pleased to speak in Monday’s petition debate on Orkambi. With negotiations between NHS England and Vertex – the pharmaceutical company which holds the UK patent for the drug – at a standstill, I called on the Government to explore more creative approaches to try and secure access to a generic version of the drug, which has the same benefits as Orkambi at a much lower price, for the thousands of cystic fibrosis patients who could benefit from it. It was great to see MPs from across the house speaking out on this issue, and it was positive that the Minister responding to the debate seemed receptive to my suggestions.
