I am pleased to support Every Child Protected Against Trafficking‘s Stable Futures campaign, which is calling on the new Home Secretary, Priti Patel, to do more to provide trafficked children with a stable future.

Bristol has a proud history of doing just this, as we saw by the outpouring of support for Stiven Bregu, who was threatened with deportation by the Home Office despite having built a life for himself in the city after being trafficked to the UK when he was just 13 years old.

As well as doing brilliantly in his GCSE and A Level exams, Stiven was chosen by Mayor Marvin Rees to take part in the City Leadership Programme, with which I am also involved. I am delighted that Stiven has now been told he will be able to stay in Bristol, but clearly the Home Office must do more to provide young people like him with the support they need.
