Last week I visited the Filton plant at Airbus, talking with the unions and other staff about the future of the company in Bristol. Hundreds of my constituents work at Airbus, or in its supply chain. Obviously a no deal Brexit – or any kind of Brexit – is a concern, but we also discussed the need to secure more export orders, and I heard about recent moves to diversify production at the site. It’s good to see Airbus taking on apprentices, including female ones, and reaching out to local schools and colleges to try to encourage young people to think of engineering as a career.
