Flybe crisis and climate change
The Government is failing to take climate change seriously, with the Government’s advisory body on climate change saying we are “way off track” from meeting climate change targets.It is disappointing that the Transport Minister did not mention climate change once in his initial response to an Urgent Question on the Flybe airline crisis. The Government is also considering cutting Air Passenger Duty on domestic flights, which would lead to more flights, more pollution and more emissions.Under the Tories, the cost of flying has fallen whilst the price of getting around by train has skyrocketed, meaning it is often far cheaper to fly across the UK than it is to travel by rail, despite flying having a much greater environmental impact. The Government needs to do more to promote sustainable transport, and invest in rail, so that people can travel from one end of the country to the other without needing to fly.
