I am delighted that the top 4 priority groups have all been offered the first dose of their Covid vaccination (residents in a care home for older adults and carers, frontline health and social care workers, all those 70 years of age and over and clinically extremely vulnerable individuals).

It’s worth noting that unlike Test and Trace and the provision of PPE, that were handed to private providers, the successful vaccine roll-out was run by the NHS, with support from the armed forces and thousands of volunteers.

Ministers are now saying they hope to offer the first dose of a vaccine to all over 50s by the end of April, although on current trends, this could be done by the end of March.

There is emerging evidence about the effectiveness of vaccination in reducing both the transmission and the severity of Covid-19, so if you are offered a jab, please do take it up. It’s the best thing you can do to protect yourself and others from Covid.
