I’ve been working closely with Ed Miliband’s team on Labour’s plans for a green recovery. It’s great to see him outlining Labour’s plans for an electric car revolution today.

While the Tories slash grants for EVs, Labour is pledging to provide interest-free loans to help people purchase them and to part-finance gigafactories so we can build vehicle batteries in the UK.

We’re also proposing massively ramping up charging infrastructure, with an emphasis on areas that lack investment, and trialling a scrappage scheme to get the most polluting vehicles off the road.

With transport being the largest contributing sector to UK emissions and air pollution continuing to kill tens of thousands every year, the electric car revolution can’t come soon enough.
