After last’s week’s underwhelming Budget and Spending Review, MPs have had four days to debate it, with votes coming later tonight. I had the chance to speak yesterday and criticised the Chancellor for failing to deliver meaningful action on either the climate emergency, or cost-of-living crisis. The Government has introduced a tax system rigged in favour of the wealthy, and working people are being asked to pay the price for past Government failure.

I also called for some of the £1.8 billion Brownfield Fund to go towards the Temple Quarter project, a shovel-ready scheme for infrastructure works around Temple Meads railway station and the completion of phase 1 of the Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus. In total, this project has the potential to create 10,000 new homes, 22,000 new jobs and bring £1.6bn annual income to Bristol’s economy. We’ve been overlooked for funding in the past, but I’m hoping that this time the Government will support us.
