I’m proud to be backing Dr Liam Fox’s Down Syndrome Bill in the Commons today. The Bill seeks to improve rights for people with Down Syndrome, who aren’t often given the same chances in education as their non-disabled peers, and can encounter difficulties when accessing healthcare and social care.

I spoke briefly in the debate, to highlight the importance of spotting when people with learning disabilities develop mental health problems and the need to ensure the right treatment pathways exist for them.

I’m pleased to say that the Bill passed its Second Reading without a vote, as it has cross-party support, and will now go into committee and, eventually, into the Lords for approval.
