Kerry McCarthy Labour MP for Bristol East
Following recent revelations about Downing Street lockdown parties, I have written to the Prime Minister to tell him just how angry people are at his “one rule for them, no rules for us” approach throughout the pandemic.
While my constituents were following the rules, often at huge personal cost, staff at Number 10 were partying, in breach of both the spirit and the law of Covid restrictions at the time. The Prime Minister’s former senior advisor, Dominic Cummings, has now accused the PM of lying to Parliament about what he knew about ‘Partygate’ and ignoring warnings that these events were illegal.
As I say in my letter, the public has lost what faith it had in the Prime Minister’s ability to lead this country. A Prime Minister should set an example. The only decent thing for him to do now is to resign.
