I visited the Tesco store at Eastgate this afternoon with Darren Jones MP to support its latest Food Collection. Tesco has teamed up with the The Trussell Trust and FareShare to collect items for Bristol food banks. They’re asking customers to donate long-life food items, with Tesco topping up donations with an additional 20% cash contribution. They’ll be collecting today and tomorrow so please support if you’re able to do so.

The number of people who’ve been in touch to say they’re struggling to put food on the table and pay their bills is incredibly alarming. Some say there aren’t any further cutbacks to make, except simply going without. What the charities are doing is amazing, as was the generosity of the customers I saw today, but it shouldn’t have to be this way. It is the Government’s responsibility to mitigate the hardship caused by the cost-of-living crisis; right now, the support on offer doesn’t go anywhere near far enough.
