Kerry McCarthy Labour MP for Bristol East
Last night, in my role as Labour’s Shadow Minister for Climate Change, I closed Labour’s debate on fracking, where we gave Tory MPs the opportunity to ban it for good. They voted to keep on fracking.
The debate was a farce. Cowardly Tory MPs lined up to tell us they didn’t want fracking in their constituencies, but that they still wouldn’t be voting to ban it.
Labour won’t dither and delay on this issue. We are clear that fracking is unpopular, unsafe and polluting. We will do everything we can to stop it before a single drill starts up.
Jacob Rees-Mogg might have the brass neck to tell you that fracking is “green”, but Labour will speak out and call it what it is: climate vandalism.
