This week in Parliament I pressed the Government on reports that it was considering banning plant-based foods from using terms associated with meat and dairy, such as ‘milk’ and ‘sausages’.

Just as everyone knows there is no dog in hot dogs, or dinosaur in turkey dinosaurs, people are perfectly able to tell the difference between oat milk and dairy products. To suggest otherwise is deeply patronising.

I am glad the Secretary of State implied that these plans would not be going ahead, but it is becoming increasingly difficult to trust a word this Government says.
