I raised the devastating environmental consequences of deep-sea mining in Parliament this week during Business and International Trade questions.
I’d met with the Environmental Justice Foundation earlier in the week to discuss their report ‘Towards the Abyss’, which highlights how deep-sea mining irreparably damages unique, biodiverse eco-systems that have evolved over millennia.

This is a crucial moment in the fight to stop the devastation of our marine environment, as the International Seabed Authority meets to discuss whether deep-sea mining can start in the Pacific next year, or whether there should be a ‘precautionary pause’.
